The Mullet Run

Yesterday, while trying to record a manta ray cruising along the beach, a school of mullet nudged its way into the viewfinder. Every year we look forward to the annual migration of the mullet and this was, so far, the best pod that has passed by this way. And just like last year, the quality of the video is pretty poor. However, if you have never had a chance to see the mullet run, here is a little idea of what happens as they travel south.

This school of mullet was observed on October 15, 2010 off the coast of Hallandale Beach, Florida. Highlights at: 0:18, 1:56, 3:43, 4:21, 4:53, 5:10. (SFW+No Audio+Camera Jitter)

If you enjoy watching the mullet, here is more compelling video of this same pod as it moves down the beach:

Highlights at: 0:16, 0:21, 0:30, 0:46, 1:34 (manta ray), 2:15, 2:20, 2:28, 3:08, 3:40, 3:52, 4:03, 4:08, 4:46, 5:23 (manta ray), 5:52. (SFW+No Audio+Camera Jitter)
